The oxygen sensor measures the O2 / fuel ratio of the injected mixture. A rich mixture (little O₂ in the exhaust gas) will activate the control unit to lean the mixture by reducing the amount injected. A lean mixture (too much O₂ in the exhaust gas) will activate the control unit to enrich the mixture and increase the amount injected.
